DEFEXO129 Mapping and Delivery Guide
Develop unique explosives

Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency DEFEXO129 - Develop unique explosives
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills required to develop unique explosives within the research environment. Unique explosives are explosives that may be required for a specific function, they are developed when explosives that are commonly available do not meet this requirement and are generally produced to client specifications. This unit applies to those required to develop, test and manufacture unique explosives within the research environment. The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit would work individually or as part of a team, using discretion and judgement and taking responsibility for the quality of their outputs. They would conduct complex tasks in a range of contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that reflect workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

acceptable means of simulation assessment

applicable documentation, including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and PPE currently used in industry.

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes:

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information related to explosives

applying computer modelling

applying diagnostic techniques

commissioning unique explosives

maintaining documentation and records

planning development processes

conducting research and analysis

testing unique explosives and analysing results

identifying design requirements and constraints

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and includes:

Operational knowledge of:

analysis processes and techniques

characteristics and properties of chemicals used in explosives

characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations of explosives

computer modelling relevant to explosives

reporting and documentation requirements

testing protocols and techniques

validation processes

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Range is restricted to essential operating conditions and any other variables essential to the work environment.

Non-essential conditions may be found in the Companion Volume Implementation Guide.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
